The annual meeting of the International Society for magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) is a very important week in our calendar. It is the main conference for all researchers who use Magnetic Resonance (MR) methods to study medicine. The conference is itself is huge with well over 5000 researchers and clinicians attending from all over the world. It allows us to discuss and exchange ideas with many people who have differing thoughts and points of view.
This year the meeting was held in the hot, humid but very beautiful Republic of Singapore. At the conference there were short talks on wide range of MR topics as well as 1000s of posters that provide a short description of a researcher’s findings about their project. For such and large and prestigious conference it can be very difficult to have your work accepted for presentation. We were very happy to have had three of our scientific submissions accepted into the conference – Steven presented an electronic poster on the used of carbon-13 labelled molecules in understanding sperm metabolism. Martyn presented an ePoster on a new ultra-fast 3D MR imaging method called ‘COBRA’. Sarah was awarded one of the sought after ‘Power Pitch’ presentations. Only 165 out 5915 are selected for this ‘to give maximum exposure to the most interesting abstracts at the annual meeting’. This is quite something for us as fertility researchers at a conference addressing a wide range of medical conditions including cancer and heart disease!
All presentations attracted lot of interest and a good discussion was had.
